Case Study

The new health centre brings together two GP practices with special interests who will share minor surgery facilities in an efficient plan where accommodation such as ancillary spaces and receptions are shared. In addition to the GP practices, the centre incorporates primary care services such as COPD services, Smoking Cessation and Health Promotion rooms but with a strong biased to multi-purpose spaces to allow maximum flexibility as the services are developed to suit local needs.

Arranged over two storeys, the facility is located on a challenging site within a housing estate. It was key to obtain a feeling of ownership from the local community in order for the new building to be welcomed and not made a target for abuse. The plan incorporates two open courtyards that the accommodation wraps around and benefits from through high levels of natural light and ventilation.
