Located on land next to The Lakes College in Lillyhall, this National College for Nuclear is one of two new hubs (the other is to be located in Somerset) being made possible thanks to a partnership between government and nuclear employees such as EDF Energy and Sellafield Ltd.
The college will offer hi-tech specialist training to meet the skills needed by the nuclear industry and as such includes a reactor simulator and virtual reality engineering learning facilities. The new building, which is a two-storey block connected to the existing college via a landscaped courtyard, also includes flexible, open-plan teaching/learning spaces, laboratories and flexible workshop areas.
