Sandside Lodge School, Ulverston
Sandside Lodge School, a special educational needs school in Ulverston, is relocating from its existing site on Sandside Road site to a new build with state-of-the-art facilities, which will be constructed on land at Ulverston Victoria High School in Springfield Road.
Sandside has pupils aged from 2 to 19 years with profound and multiple learning difficulties. The present Sandside school building has been deemed “no longer fit for purpose”.
A new 80-place school has been approved with facilities including sensory rooms and a therapy suite which will include a hydrotherapy pool, physiotherapy and rebound trampoline therapy. These specialist facilities will be delivered alongside modern teaching spaces with the latest technology.
The new facility also intends to incorporate the county’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Resource Team on site, which will help the school develop into a Centre of Excellence for Autism.
