Horizon Youth Zone is now complete
Our MEP team played a key role in bringing the mechanical, electrical and public health systems together within this complex heritage setting.

We are proud to announce that the Horizon Youth Zone project in Grimsby has now reached completion, marking a major milestone for everyone involved in delivering the building services.
The scheme has transformed a series of 19th century Grade II listed maltings and warehouses into a vibrant new youth hub. The design carefully balances conservation with contemporary requirements, combining restored brick structures with new build elements including a sports hall and activity spaces. Integrating modern services into the retained fabric required detailed coordination and a sensitive approach throughout.
Sustainability has been central to the project. The building includes roof mounted solar panels to support on site energy generation, high efficiency LED lighting with intelligent controls, and heat recovery ventilation systems to reduce energy demand. Passive measures such as natural daylight and ventilation have also been maximised to limit reliance on mechanical systems.
Reaching completion reflects strong collaboration between the design team, contractor and client through the design, installation and commissioning. The grand opening is set for 14th February, which is when the doors will officially open to young people across North East Lincolnshire, providing a safe and inspiring space for sport, creativity and learning.
The scheme has recently been submitted for consideration for the Architects’ Journal Retrofit Awards.
